Virgin Voyages Adults Only: What It's Really Like
Virgin Voyages is the adults-only cruise line — every ship, every sailing is 18+, with no kids aboard, no buffets, and a fare that includes far more than mainstream lines bundle in. If you've been cruise-curious but allergic to the family-mega-ship experience, this is the line built for you. I'm Christine, an independent travel advisor with InteleTravel, and I'm hosting a group departure on Virgin's first ship, Scarlet Lady: ten nights through Greece, Turkey, and Egypt in June 2027. This page is my working review of what Virgin does differently, what the fare includes, and how to join the sailing.
What Makes Virgin Different From Every Other Line
Three things, and they're structural, not marketing. First, the adults-only rule: the whole ship is 18+, which changes the atmosphere completely — pools stay calm, nightlife is actually nightlife, and dinner feels like a restaurant in a city, not a cafeteria at capacity. Second, dining: there are no buffets on Virgin ships, ever. Scarlet Lady carries more than twenty eateries — steak and seafood, handmade Italian pastas, Korean BBQ, Mexican, serious vegetarian-forward cooking — and all of them are included in the fare, made to order. On mainstream lines that roster would cost hundreds in specialty-dining upcharges. Third, the ship itself: Scarlet Lady launched in 2020, carries about 2,700 passengers across 17 decks — mid-sized by modern standards — and is styled like a boutique hotel, down to cabins with mood lighting, beds that convert to lounges, and the signature red hammock on every balcony terrace.
The Honest Review Part: Who Virgin Suits and Who It Doesn't
Virgin is the right line for couples, friend groups, and solo travelers who want a social, stylish, genuinely relaxed ship — and the included-dining model alone makes it one of the best values in cruising once you price what the same meals cost elsewhere. Wi-Fi, group fitness classes, entertainment, and essential non-alcoholic drinks are also in the fare, so the walk-off-the-ship bill is smaller than mainstream cruisers expect. Who it doesn't suit: families, obviously, but also travelers who want the traditional cruise rituals — there's no formal night, no assigned dining time, no main dining room in the classic sense. If a cruise without those things sounds like an upgrade, you're Virgin's target audience exactly. The 2027 Sailing: Greece, Turkey & Egypt on Scarlet Lady
My hosted Virgin departure is the route people build bucket lists around: ten nights, June 10–20, 2027, round-trip from Athens. The itinerary hits Santorini's cliffside villages, Ephesus via Kuşadası — one of the best-preserved ancient cities anywhere — then an overnight in Alexandria with time to reach Cairo for the Pyramids and the Sphinx, before finishing through medieval Rhodes and Mykonos's beach clubs, with sea days spaced through the middle to actually enjoy the ship. An overnight port stop in Egypt is the detail to appreciate: most Mediterranean itineraries give you eight rushed hours; this one gives you two days. Balcony cabins in my group block are held at set group pricing with published deposits — $1,141.20 per person for a regular balcony and $1,159.20 for a central one — with final payment due February 10, 2027, and flexible payments between. Prepaid gratuities are $200 per person, and other cabin categories are quoted individually.
Joining the Group
If an adults-only ship doing Greece and Egypt in one trip is your kind of vacation, the path in is simple: call (256) 469-3098 or reach me through the [booking page](/book), and I'll give you current availability, the full cost picture for your cabin category — fare, gratuities, the optional $35-per-person airport transfers, and travel protection options — before you commit to anything. A deposit holds your cabin; deposits are fully refundable within 7 days of booking, and balcony cabins stay refundable until the February 2027 final payment date. Solo travelers are welcome, and I'll quote solo cabin pricing straight. The group is planning to stay at the same hotel in Athens the night before sailing, so nobody sweats a flight delay on departure day. Ten nights, three countries, zero kids — reserved with one deposit. If June 2027 doesn't fit your calendar, I can still book you on any Virgin sailing individually, and I'll tell you honestly whether the itinerary you're eyeing is one of their strong ones.

Fewer than most lines — all restaurants, basic Wi-Fi, fitness classes, entertainment, and soft drinks are in the fare — but it is not fully all-inclusive. Alcohol, spa treatments, shore excursions, and premium Wi-Fi cost extra, and on our 2027 group sailing prepaid gratuities are $200 per person. We list every published extra before you put down a deposit.
Virgin's home port is Miami, with seasonal sailings from other ports including Athens and Barcelona for Mediterranean itineraries. Our hosted 2027 departure sails Scarlet Lady round-trip from Athens (Piraeus), June 10–20, 2027, visiting Santorini, Ephesus, Alexandria/Cairo, Rhodes, and Mykonos.
